Beverly E. Hamilton

Beverly E. Hamilton, 92, a longtime Dover resident died Monday, January 17, 2005 in the Park Village Health Care Center in Dover following a three month illness.

Bev was a registered nurse and longtime volunteer for the Red Cross where she served for over 45 years. She taught home nursing and baby and child care. She was the founder of both Mobile Meals and Dress a Child programs in Tuscarawas County.

Born June 3, 1912 in Daytona Beach, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Harry Alan and Edith Wolf Horn.

Bev was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Dover where she was a former Sunday Schoolteacher, church choir, Lois Circle, Music Study Club, and was involved in the Church Women United Cambridge District and the East Ohio Conference. She was also previously active in the Tuscarawas County Medical Society Auxiliary and the Twin City Medical Society. She was a talented violinist and played in the Tuscarawas Philharmonic where she played first violin for 40 years and served as Business Manager and the board of directors for many years. She was also a member of the former “Singing Violins” and the AKG. During the 50�(TM)s, she served as a volunteer in the Ground Observer Corp. She received her B.S. degree from Florida State University.

She was a recipient of the Zeisberger-Heckewelder Award and received the Distinguished Service Award from the United Nations Assn. of the United States in 1975. She and her husband enjoyed traveling around the world.

Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Hamilton MD, retired physician and surgeon who died March 31, 2003. They were married for 64 years.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter, Joseph William “Bill” (Sharon) Hamilton of New Philadelphia, Homer Allen “Al” Hamilton of Loveland, Colorado and Judith Ann (John) Straight of Tuscarawas; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles David Hamilton and a sister, Helen Buschman.

A service celebrating Bev�(TM)s life will be held Friday, January 21, 2005 at 10:30 am in the First United Methodist Church at Dover with Rev. Larry Black officiating. A reception will follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center, 831 Boulevard in Dover where a tribute of her life will be shared. Friends may call at the church Friday from 9:30am to 10:30 am. At her request, cremation will take place.
