Blake E. Roush, 83, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, May 10, 2004 in Union Hospital.
He retired in 1982 from Republic Steel at Massillon where he had worked for 30 years.
Born August 26, 1920 at Bolivar, he was the son of the late Earl C. & Beulah Keller Roush. He was also preceded in death by his loving step-mother, Grace Yackey Roush.
A graduate of Strasburg High School, Blake went on to admirably serve his country in the Army during World War II having taken part in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Midvale VFW.
He was also a member of USWA local 1124.
Blake was a big sports fan and especially loved following the Cleveland Indians. He enjoyed golfing and later in life took an interest in walking as his form of exercise.
Perhaps he will best be remembered as an avid bowler. He spent years bowling in leagues and tournaments in the area. He could never bowl the elusive 300 game, but was honored by friends with a special belt buckle “298” marking his career high game.
Blake was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Sherer Roush who passed away in 1991.
Survivors include: his daughter, Sandi (Kenneth) Saltz of Massillon; two grandchildren, Kenneth D. Saltz, Jr. and Kevin D. Saltz both of Massillon; three sisters and two brothers, Irene (Russell) Hartline of Beach City, Hazel Lewis of Strasburg, Robert (Ann) Roush of New Philadelphia, Marian (Pete) Angelo of Strasburg and Rev. Dean (Bobbi) Roush of Ashtabula.
In addition to his parents and wife, Blake was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Roush and a granddaughter, Tiffany Ann Saltz.
In celebration of his life, a funeral service will be held Thursday, May 13, at 2:00 p.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Strasburg with Rev. James Taggart officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg. Friends may call in the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and on Thursday, one hour prior to services.
