Brad Lee Ritenour, 54, of Dover died Wednesday, April 2, 2014 in Tampa, Florida while vacationing with his son, Bradley during a scuba expedition after suddenly becoming ill.
Brad was a superintendent of Thompson Electric Inc. in Munroe Falls, Ohio. In addition, Brad was the former owner of Captain Nemo's Dive Shop in Dover and was a certified scuba diving instructor having taught many divers in Tuscarawas County including his children.
Born July 22, 1959 in Dover, he was the son of the late William Henry and Ruth (Pease) Ritenour. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother in law Dolores Glasgow and father in law, Glenn Knight.
He was the administrator of the Dover Moose Lodge and was instrumental in the building of the new lodge home. In 2013, he was the recipient of the Pilgrim Degree of Merit (highest honor of a Moose member). He was a volunteer of the Ohio Special Olympics, member of the Dover Tornado Club and the IBEW Local #71. He was an avid Harley rider and enjoyed many motorcycle trips with his wife including trips to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. He rode with the Moose Riders in Dover. He was a longtime Boy Scout leader of Troop #95 for many years and attended Seven Ranges Scout Camp. Brad was a lifelong member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Philadelphia. He will be remembered as a great father and attended all of his children's school activities and sporting events. He loved spending time with his grandson, Maddox and took him to breakfast every Saturday morning. Brad and his family took diving trips all over the world. He was a 1977 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and the Buckeye Career Center. He put everyone's needs before himself and his family was the most important thing in his life.
He will be sadly missed by his family including his wife Deborah (Knight) Ritenour with whom he would have celebrated 37 years of marriage this Dec. 3; a daughter Amanda and fiance (Spencer McConnell) of Dover and Bradley J. and fianc (Alyson Ledrich) of Strasburg; his grandson, Maddox McConnell; a sister, Robyn (Jerry) Page of Stonecreek; brother, Jeffrey (fianc Sue) Ritenour of Mineral City; uncles, Bill (Barb) Pease of New Philadelphia and Lee (Rose) Pease of California and an aunt, Helen Lyn of Oil City, Pennsylvania; sisters in law, Abby (Mark) Smith of Barnhill, Mary (Ron) Lenarz of Dover and Nancy Stein and fianc Carl of Canton along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins including a special nephew, Nathan Ritenour and his best friend, Kevin Kaswinkel.
A memorial service celebrating Brad's life will be held Wednesday, April 9, 2014 beginning at 11am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Pastor Dan Price officiating. Cremation will follow the services. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-8pm at the funeral home. Moose services will be conducted at 3:45pm.
