Dover

Bradley Jay Holcomb, 58, a proud veteran of the United States Navy, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023, after a period of declining health due to complications from multiple strokes.

The son of Delbert and Eleanor (Van Meter) Holcomb, Bradley grew up in Dover, Ohio. He was born on October 14, 1964 and was a graduate of Dover High School and Buckeye Career Center.

Following graduation, Bradley enlisted in the United States Navy. He valued this service highly and served aboard the USS Skate, USS Indianapolis, USS Chicago, and USS George Washington Carver. During this time he resided in California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Brad spent his last years living in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan until his illness took him back to Wisconsin to a medical facility there.

After his departure from the Navy he decided to reenlist in 2006 to serve in Al Asad, Iraq, as a supply corps officer with the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion TWO FIVE (Seabees) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Brad cherished the friends he made while in the service.

Bradley is survived by his mother, Eleanor Holcomb, and sisters, Vera (Randy) Moser and Cora (Randy) Moretta, nephews Michael (Bethanie) Moser, Zachary (Celine) Moser, and Matthew Moretta, and great-nephews Ivan, Braxton, and Barrett.

A celebration of Brad’s life will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at The Summit, 302 E. Slingluff Avenue, Dover, Ohio. Cremation has taken place through the care of the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover.  A private service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Carl C. Stoller VFW, 441 Park Avenue N.W., New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663, to whom the family is greatly indebted for providing the funds to transport Brad back to Ohio in order to spend his final days with his family.
