Bruce D. Bernard, 70, of New Philadelphia, died in his home Monday, November 14, 2005, the day after his seventieth birthday.
Born November 13, 1935, in Freeport, Bruce was a son of the late Charles and Clara Rothley Bernard. He graduated in 1953 from Freeport High School, and served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the era of the Korean Conflict. Bruce was a printer, having been employed by The Freeport Press, The Evening Chronicle of Uhrichsville, and The Massillon Independent.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of New Philadelphia, where he volunteered tabulating the church�(TM)s attendance data. Bruce also volunteered for over ten years at the Lighthouse Youth Center taking registrations. He was a member of B.P.O.E. No. 510 of New Philadelphia. In his younger days he enjoyed fishing and hunting, and presently found satisfaction in working both word and jigsaw puzzles.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Smith Bernard, whom he married November 12, 1966, in the Broadway United Methodist Church of New Philadelphia; three sons, John D. Korintus and Matthew C. Korintus, both of New Philadelphia, and Brent A. (Christine) Bernard of Springboro; two granddaughters, Danielle Korintus and Bailey Bernard; a grandson, Brock Bernard; a sister, Marjorie (Karl) Gerwels of Minster; a brother, James Bernard of Uhrichsville; sisters-in-law, Wilma Conley of Cleveland, Beverly (Al) Bednarski of Lakewood, Marjorie McConnell of Dover, and Deborah Smith of Parma Heights; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Bruce�(TM)s life will be celebrated in a service Thursday, November 17, at 2 p.m., in the First United Methodist Church, New Philadelphia, with Dr. Steven R. Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park where military rites will be conducted by the New Philadelphia post of the V.F.W. Following the committal, there will be a meal in the church�(TM)s fellowship hall. Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 803 N.
