C. Dale Gillaspie

C. Dale Gillaspie, 88, of Dover, Ohio and formerly of Cadiz died Sunday, August 3, 2008 in the Hennis Care Centre at Dover following an extended illness.

Dale retired in 1975 from Cadiz High School where he served as band director and music teacher for 27 years.

Born January 24, 1920 in Wellsville, Ohio, he was the son of the late Charles C. and Grace (Edwards) Gillaspie.

He was a longtime member of the Church of Christ in Dover where he served as an elder. He was also a former deacon and elder for the Church of Christ in Cadiz. In addition to his longtime commitment and devotion to his church, he enjoyed playing cello in the Canton Symphony Orchestra. He also was a member of the Amateur Radio Club and was a craftsman having built three homes. He enjoyed many other hobbies including photography and loved traveling forty nine of the fifty states.

In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his brother, Wilbur.

He is survived by his wife, Emmabelle (Mack) Gillaspie with whom he would have celebrated 68 years of marriage this October 12; two sons, Larry (wife, Barbara) Gillaspie of Dover and James (wife, Elizabeth) Gillaspie of Louisville, Kentucky; a daughter, Lyndra (husband, James) Cunningham of Sierra Madre, California; seven grandchildren, Brenda, Susan, Brent, Alan, Kathy, Tina, and Kristy and eighteen great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at 10:30am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Tom Butterfield officiating. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 1pm in the Holly Memorial Gardens in Colerain. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday (today) from 6-8pm.
