C. Lemoyne Luthy

C. LeMoyne Luthy, 88, of Dover and a former resident of Strasburg and Hollywood, Florida died Tuesday, February 27, 2007 in the Park Village Health Care Center following a brief illness.

LeMoyne served as Mayor of the City of Dover for ten years from 1962-1972. Prior to his service as Mayor, he served eight years on Dover City Council including Ward 4 councilman and four years as council president. While residing in Strasburg, he also served Strasburg Village Council for eleven years.

In addition to his service to the Dover and Strasburg communities, LeMoyne was a former manager of Robinson Clay Products for fifteen years. He had also previously worked for Edwards Trucking Company in Strasburg, was a weigh master for the state of Ohio, Marv Davidson Stone Quarry in Florida, Farbizo Coal Company in Dover, Hercules Motor Company in Canton along with Reeves Steel and Marsh Lumber Company.

Born August 10, 1918 in Dover, he was the son of the late Charles and Clara Beatty Luthy. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Joan Miller and two brothers, Bruce and Russ Luthy.

He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Dover where he served as an usher for 35 years and was a member of the Senior Men�(TM)s Club. He was also a member of the Christian Businessmen�(TM)s Association, Dover Kiwanis Club, 50 year member of the Dover American Legion, Dover VFW, and the Highway Patrol Auxiliary for 21 years.

A 1936 graduate of Dover High School, LeMoyne served in the US Navy during World War II aboard the destroyer, USS Eichenberger. He fought in the Battle of Leyte Gulf and received the Asiatic-Pacific Area medal with three stars, Philippine Liberation Medal with two stars, and the Victory Medal.

He is survived by his wife, Betty (Harpster) Luthy with whom he would have celebrated 66 years of marriage this August 30; one son and daughter in law, Edward (Bev) Luthy of Dover; grandchildren, Tom (Erika) Luthy of Boston, Massachusetts, Kendra Welker of Zanesville, and Andrew and Sherry Eiler both of Rochester, New York; three great grandchildren, Schuyler, Jake, and Ted Luthy; a sister, Janet (Bob) Phillips of Dover and a sister in law and brother in law, Eugene “Duby” Miller and Jo Miller of Strasburg along with many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service celebrating LeMoyne�(TM)s life will be held Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 2pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Pastor Jim Lewis officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside services. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from noon until 2pm.
