C. Richard Mathias

C. Richard "Rick" Mathias, 55, of Dover died Thursday, July 30, 2015 in the Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia following a one year battle with cancer.

Rick was a truck driver for Wallick Scrap Metals in Dover until illness forced his retirement.

Born May 15, 1960 in Dover, he was the son of Joanne (Nigro) Mathias of Dover and the late Richard "Dick" Mathias.

He was an active member of the Italian American Festival Foundation where he previously served as President and was a trustee. He was also instrumental in reestablishing the Dover compost program. Rick was a 1978 graduate of Dover High School.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two children Corissa and Preston; two sisters, Stephanie (Jim) Doutt of Medina and Joellyn (Tim) Troyer of Stow; a brother, John Patrick Mathias and will be sadly missed by his canine companion, Pepper. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Sunday from 5-7pm. The Rev. Thomas Dunkle will officiate graveside services Monday, Aug. 3, 2015 beginning at 10am in the Dover Burial Park. A reception will follow at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center.
