Camillo C. "Cam" Colelli, 81, of Strasburg, and a former resident of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, in Union Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
Born Mar. 9, 1930, in Perryopolis, PA, he was a son of the late Mario P. and Emilia Imperatore Colelli. Cam graduated from Perry Township High School in Perryopolis, and then went to California State Teachers College and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1953. Shortly thereafter he was drafted into the United States Army and served in Korea. He also was educated in math and chemistry and spent his professional career as a chemist. Cam married the former Catherine A. "Kit" Wolfe on May 26, 1956. The couple reared three children and shared forty-six years of marriage before Kit's passing in 2002.
Cam and Kit had resided in Tuscarawas County since 1976, when Cam took a position with the Dover Chemical Co. He later formed his own company, Colelli & Associates, Inc., which provided oil well services. Additionally, Cam taught chemistry and physics at Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School where he was very supportive of students' educations.
Cam was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church in New Philadelphia, and volunteered for Mobile Meals of Dover-New Philadelphia. He especially enjoyed gardening and working outside.
Survivors include his daughter, Sue Colelli of New Philadelphia; his two sons, Chris (Linda) Colelli of Fredericksburg, VA, and Tim Colelli, also of New Philadelphia; two granddaughters, Lisa and Renee Colelli; his sister, Lea Volpe of Milford, MA; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, and his beloved wife, Kit, Cam was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfio and Leonard Colelli.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover, on Friday, Dec. 16, 5 8 p.m. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Dec. 17, at 10:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, New Philadelphia. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, also at New Philadelphia. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in Sacred Heart's St. Ambrose Hall.
