Carl E. Metzger, 72, of Dover, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, in Union Hospital from complications of Alzheimer�(TM)s Disease.
Born May 3, 1934, in Tuscarawas, Carl attended Tuscarawas High School, and then went on to serve honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. Carl was an officer with the Sugarcreek Police Department, where he also served as Chief. He was employed by Sparta Manufacturing in Columbia, Sugarcreek Heating and Cooling, and Kelly�(TM)s Heating and Cooling in New Philadelphia.
Carl was a member of Tuscarawas Post 7943 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Fraternal Order of Police, and the Ohio Chiefs of Police Association. He was a devoted family man.
Survivors include his beloved wife of forty-nine years, Elsie Jeanne Price Metzger; a son, Bob (wife, Judy) Metzger of Dundee; two daughters, Tammy (husband, Rod) Goolsby also of Dundee, and Lisa (husband, Marion) Miller of Sugarcreek; five grandchildren, Gina, Shawn, Ryan and Sierra Goolsby, and Heather Miller; three sisters, Lois (husband, Lloyd) Ickes of Tuscarawas, Betty Tharp of Uhrichsville, and Lucy (husband, Bob) Phillips of Schoenbrunn; a brother, Don (wife, Pat) Metzger of Tuscarawas; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by three sisters, Agnes Selzner, Gladys Parrish and Doris Belknap; and two brothers Bill and Clarence Metzger.
Carl�(TM)s life will be celebrated in a service Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Rev. Dr. Carlan D. Helgeson of the First United Church of Christ in Sugarcreek officiating. Burial will be in Dundee Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Following the committal, there will be refreshments at the home of Tammy and Rod Goolsby, 4981 Hardy Ridge Rd. N.W., Dundee.
