Carl L. Lisle

September 11, 1909 — February 11, 2006

Ethel Rosalee Lisle, 93, died Thursday, February 9, 2006 and her husband, Carl Lester Lisle, 96, died Saturday, February 11, 2006 in the Park Village Health Care Center in Dover. They were residents of New Philadelphia.

Ethel was born October 2, 1912 in Morgantown, West Virginia, the daughter of the late J. George and Ora (Barker) Dickinson. She was also preceded in death by her brother in law, Robert Patton.

Carl was born September 11, 1909 in Cadiz, Ohio, the son of the late Charles and Pearl (Merryman) Lisle. He was also preceded in death by his only brother, F. Boyd Lisle, his sister in law, Alma (Perkins) Lisle and his nephew, Robert Lisle.

Ethel lived most of her life in Cadiz, Ohio. She was a store manager for the Neikirk 5 and 10. Later, she was a stay at home mom but was an active member of the First Church of Christ Christian Church in Cadiz. She was involved in choir, children(TM)s programs, women(TM)s group and served as Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School teacher. She was also a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and a 4H Advisor for many years. She later worked for the Cadiz schools as a Secretary and Teachers Aid.

Carl was a barber for over 52 years and most would remember him at the Barbershop in the Custer Hotel in Cadiz. Living most of his life in Cadiz, he then was a member of the First Church of Christ Christian Church serving the church as a Deacon, Treasurer, and choir member. He was a talented musician and could play several instruments including the guitar, accordion, violin, harmonica, and piano.

After retirement, Carl and Ethel moved to New Philadelphia. They transferred their church membership to the Dover First Christian Church where they attended and enjoyed the social activities. Carl and Ethel loved baseball and could always be found at their grandsons(TM) ball games. They were big Cleveland Indians fans. Along with enjoying the activities of their grandchildren, they were active with the Senior Citizens and took many bus tours. Over the years, they had traveled to many states. Ethel also enjoyed crafts, crocheting, sewing, and “being creative.” Carl also credited his long life to Ethel(TM)s good cooking. Carl continued his favorite hobby of fine woodworking and has left many beautiful handmade clocks and furniture pieces to his children and grandchildren.

In the last few years, Carl was devoted to caring for his wife who was diagnosed in 2002 with Alzheimer(TM)s. He chose to live with her in Assisted Living so they could be together. Family and friends will always remember the love and care he gave her. They celebrated 57 years of marriage on May 1, 2005. They are survived by two children, Linda (Bob) Raber of New Philadelphia and Keith Lisle of Burbank, California; 4 grandchildren, Amy (Mike) Yoder of New Philadelphia, Darren (Vicki) Raber of Sugarcreek, Brandon Raber of Dover and Lance Raber and fiancé Adel Grindley of Dover; 3 great grandchildren, Andarah Yoder of New Philadelphia and Jordyn and Brevan Raber of Sugarcreek and another great grandson is expected in April.

Ethel is also survived by two brothers and one sister, Leslie (Anna Mae) Dickinson of Cadiz, William (Florence) Dickinson and Marie Patton all of Lakeshore, Florida. Carl is also survived by one nephew, Marvin (Janice) Lisle of Columbus.
