Carme "Babe" Zito, 89, of Dover died Sunday, May 25, 2008 in her home surrounded by her family.
Born January 23, 1919, in Dover, she was the daughter of the late, Susan Leone and Charles Pietro, Sr. She married the love of her life, Anthony M. Zito, Sr. on August 17, 1942. Together they had three children. Anthony preceded her in death on March 3, 1987.
Carme was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover. She was involved with the Christian Mothers, St. Joseph School Boosters, and a cafeteria volunteer. She was also a Cub Scout Den Mother and worked for the Board of Elections of Tuscarawas County.
Carme was a homemaker. She loved cooking for her family during the holidays. She had a green thumb, and enjoyed growing and caring for plants and flowers. She also loved to travel, especially to Las Vegas and Atlantic City.
She is survived by a daughter, Susan D. Zito of Dover; her two sons, Tony Zito and Patricia of Ormond Beach, Florida and Charles Zito of Dover; six grandchildren, Chris Zito of Sanford, North Carolina, Toni (Derek Davenport) Zito of Raleigh, North Carolina, Al Battalio of Reno, Nevada, Todd Zito of New Philadelphia, Emily Zito of Dover, and Elizabeth Zito of Dover; three great grandchildren, Amanda Wolfe of Raleigh, North Carolina, Hayden Zito of Dover and Steven Davenport of Raleigh, North Carolina; two sisters, Josephine (husband, Alex) Bellanco of Dover, and Dorothy Sicurella of New Philadelphia; a step-sister, Jo Cardinal of Massillon; a half-brother, Charles (wife, Mary) Pietro Jr. of Dover; her sister-in-law, Frances Pietro of Strasburg and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is also preceded in death by her Stepmother, Anna Sicurella; two brothers, Danny Pietro and her infant brother, Charles Pietro; as well as a stepbrother, Emmanuel Sicurella.
A celebration of Carme's life will be held at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory in Dover on Thursday, May 29, 2008 at 11:00 am with Father William Arnold officiating. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Dover. Following the service of committal, a meal will be served at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center, which is located on the Boulevard in Dover. Friends are invited to call one hour prior to the service on Thursday, from 10:00-11:00 am.
