Carol A. Starkey

Carol A. Starkey, 65, of Bolivar passed away suddenly at her home on Saturday, December 11, 2021.

She was born on May 22, 1956 in Dover and was a daughter of the late Arthur and Doris Strong Burkholder. Carol was also preceded in death by her father in law, Ormond Starkey and brother in law, Bradley Starkey.

Carol was a 1974 graduate of Dover High School, and received her bachelors and masters degrees from Kent State University. She began her 40 year teaching career at St. Mary’s in Dennison and retired in 2021 from Tusky Valley High School. Carol loved being with her family, they were the center of her world, especially spending time with her grandchildren. She was known as the family organizer, who enjoyed planning family get-togethers at her home.

A wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Carol will be missed by her husband of 24 years, Lewis Starkey whom she married on August 22, 1997; son, Andrew (Emily) Duggan of Strasburg; sister, Kay (Junior) Hershberger of Dover; grandchildren, Jackson and Taylor; nephew, Cory (Kyla) Hershberger; great nephew, Pence Hershberger; mother in law, Norma Starkey of Baltic; brother in law, Jan (Lisa) Starkey of Baltic; and sister in law, Jeanette Starkey of Norwich.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, December 14th starting at 11:00 am at the Dover Burial Park with Rev. David Wing officiating. Those wishing to express their fondest memories of Carol may do so by visiting the online obituaries link on the funeral home’s website.
