Carol L. Layman, born on April 20, 1943, in Coshocton, Ohio, peacefully departed this life on April 20, 2025, at Ohio's Hospice Truman House. Carol was the daughter of the late James F. and Beulah (Lewis) Ames.
She was a graduate of Wooster Business College and over her career was the secretary for a bank president, a college Dean, and a psychiatrist. Carol dedicated nine years of her professional life to the Village of Strasburg, where she served as the assistant treasurer. Her commitment to her community was evident in her diligent work and the relationships she built during her time in public service. She also volunteered as a Candy Striper for Union Hospital.
Beyond her career, Carol was a devoted member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church. Music was a cornerstone of her life; she not only enjoyed singing in the church choir but also showcased her talents as a skilled pianist. Her love for music brought joy to those around her, and her contributions enriched her community. She also enjoyed cross-stitching.
Carol will be greatly missed by her husband of 59 years, Donald Layman, whom she married on January 28, 1966. She also leaves behind her children: Chad Layman (Rhonda Hardesty) of Strasburg, and Melissa (Charles) Witt of Strasburg; her grandchildren, Alan and David Layman, and Reagan Eberhardt; along with her sister, Judy Livingston; her brother in-law, Junior (Sandra) Layman, and Beverly Brillhart; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister; Peggy (Wayne) Pyers; her father and mother in-law, Orland and Jessie Layman; brothers in-law, Elmo Layman and Wendell Layman.
Family was paramount to Carol, and her pride in her grandchildren was profound. She cherished all moments spent watching her grandchild, Reagan, play sports, supporting them wholeheartedly, and celebrating their achievements. These memories reflect the deep love and joy that defined her role as a grandmother.
