Carolyn M. Googash

Carolyn Googash, 99, of Dover, known as Carrie to all of her friends, died Thursday, March 22, 2018, in Community Hospice’s Truman House, New Philadelphia.

Carrie was born in Dover on December 19, 1918, a daughter of the late Lewis and Julia Shimko Jewell. In addition to her parents, Carrie was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, George; her brothers, Robert and Lewis Jewell; and her sister, Mary Ersek.

She is survived by her two children, Carol Lemasters of New Philadelphia, and Steven Googash (Susan) of Miamisburg. She has five grandchildren, Jon, Bruce and Doug Lemasters, all of New Philadelphia, Jeff Lemasters of Dover, and Jason Googash of Frederick, Maryland. Carrie also has seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She retired from the J.C. Penney Co., Dover, where she was known as “the drapery lady.”
Carrie led a full life, and was always ready to travel. She visited all fifty states, all of Canada’s provinces, Romania and the Panama Canal. Carrie and George spent winters in Florida, which continued with Carol through this last winter. She loved animals and visited Yellowstone many times.

Now she can continue sitting with George on the front porch of heaven .

A funeral service will be held Monday, March 26, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Pastor David Wing officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park.
