Catherine “Katie” Albaugh 89, of Dover, Ohio died Friday, September 29, 2006 in Union Hospital.
Born August 25, 1917 in New Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Lena Christner Ball.
Katie was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Dover where she was involved in the Dr. Mary Bear Circle, J.C. Miller Class, Elderberries, New Babies in the Cradle Roll in the church. She was the 1999 Recipient of the Service Award and was in charge of the Bible School for many years. She also was involved in the Grief Support Group, and helped with the White Tea at the church.
Katie was also Support Group Leader of the caregivers for the Alzheimers Association and was awarded the Bob Torgler Award from the mental health board. She was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron with two Grand Chapter appointments. She was program director for the Tuscarawas County AARP and served as a precinct poll worker for the election board. She was a member of the Dover Woman�(TM)s Study Club. She was a member of the Dover Historical Society and was a volunteer for the Reeves Foundation. She was the recipient of the Zeisberger- Heckewelder Award in 2004. She also delivered Mobile Meals for many years.
She enjoyed embroidering pillow cases, completing crossword puzzles and was a collector of mugs and angels. She also loved to play cards and was a member of the 'What's Trump' Bridge Club for over 60 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell B. Albaugh who died June 28, 1991. She was also preceded by one brother, Russell Ball and four sisters, Margaret Morris, Mildred Singleton, Ruth Schwartz, and Helen Varalli.
Katie is survived by two daughters, Judy (Rob) Mugnier of Grove City, Ohio and Shari (Bob) Spring of Uhrichsville; seven grandchildren, Julie (Marc) Vincent, Christine (Mark) Long, Stephanie (J.R.) Williams, Maggie Spring, Meggan Spring, Tammy (Wendell) Hale, and Erik Mugnier. Thirteen great grandchildren, Abby and Paige Vincent, Jasmine, Kirsten, and Ana Long, Adrianna Spring, Abrielle Jones, Nathan, Emili and A.J. Williams, Angie Burt, Matthew Purcell, and Philip Hale and a great great granddaughter, Laurelli Burt along with a sister, Virginia Swinderman of New Philadelphia and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service celebrating Katie�(TM)s life will be held Monday, October 2, 2006 at 11am in the Grace Lutheran Church at Dover with Rev. Jim Lewis officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. A reception will follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Sunday (today) from 4-7 pm with Eastern Star services at 6:45 pm.
