Charles A. Pietro, Jr., 86, a lifelong resident of Dover died Sunday morning, April 10, 2016 in the Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia following a brief illness.
He retired in 1995 from the composing room at the Times Reporter newspaper following 42 years of service.
Born June 20, 1929 in Dover, he was the son of the late Charles Sr. and Anna (Bellanco) Pietro.
Charles was a lifetime member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover. After graduating from Dover High School, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. While stationed in Bermuda, he one day spotted a beautiful girl from Bermuda by the name of Mary King that would become his lifelong partner in marriage and would have celebrated 65 years on May 17. Charles was also a member of the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge and the former Dover Elks and is one of the last surviving members of the 7th St. Tigers. He had many interests over the years including woodworking, golf and enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sports activities as well as frequenting the casinos.
In addition to his wife, he will also be sadly missed by his family including his three children, Jeff Pietro of Atwood Lake, John (Denise) Pietro of Pompano Beach, Florida and Liz (Art) DeCrane of Powell, Ohio; six grandchildren, Jonathan, Matthew, Kimberly, Kelley, Blake and Kyle along with many other family and friends including his special friends, Joseph "Whiz" Conidi and Ted "Popeye" Rondinella both of Dover.
A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2016 beginning at 10:30am in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover with Fr. Jimmy Hatfield officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover with a reception to follow in the St. Joseph Family Life Center. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Tuesday (today) from 5-7pm.
