Charles Curtis Meredith

Charles Curtis Meredith, 90, of New Philadelphia, Ohio died Tuesday, Nov. 20 in Aultman Hospital at Canton due to complications of surgery.

Born Feb. 26, 1911 in New Philadelphia, Curtis was the son of the late Florence E. Hodel Meredith Trachsel and John William Meredith. He was a coal truck driver prior to service in World War II. A veteran of Normandy, he earned a bronze star. Following the war, he worked in the maintenance department at Joy Manufacturing until his retirement in 1974. After retirement, his hobbies included woodworking and furniture making. He was a member of Broadway Methodist Church for over 75 years where he served as a trustee. In 1990, the Goshen Township trustees named Curtis Road in his honor.

Preceding him in death are his wife, the former Dorothy Weaver of New Philadelphia, a sister, Mildred Benbow, and a special friend, Elvira Kappler. Surviving are a daughter, Mary Ann (John) Scharf of Morris Plains, New Jersey, and a son, David (Linda) Meredith of Uniontown, PA, and four grandchildren, Mark William Meredith, Scott David Meredith, Christopher Brian Scharf and Lisa Meredith Scharf.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 24, 2001 at 10:30 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Rev. Jim Spencer officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Burial Park where the New Philadelphia VFW will conduct military graveside services. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 3:30-5 pm and 7-9 pm.
