Charles Elmer Murphy, 82, of New Philadelphia passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, March 29, 2014 at New Dawn Retirement Center.
Born October 12, 1931, he lived in New Philadelphia most of his life. He attended New Philadelphia High School and then in 1950 enlisted in the United States Air Force until 1953. He returned home and obtained employment at the former Warner and Swaysey (Gradall) and remained there for 30 years until his retirement. He will be best remembered by his family for being a hard worker, his love for working outside, over-decorating for the holidays and loving his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his four children, Charles Murphy and his companion, Anna Cox of Canton, Victor (wife, Rebecca) Murphy of Stafford, Virginia, Linda Blanchard and fianc Michael McCormick of Browns Mills, New Jersey and Amy (husband, Rob) Rufener of Strasburg; seven grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 3 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Friends can call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-7 pm. Private family interment will take place in the East Ave. Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
