Charles Edgar Osburn, 81, of Walnut Hills Commons and a former Winfield resident died Monday, July 26, 1999 at his residence following a brief illness.
Born June 2, 1918 in Morgan County, Ohio, he was the son of the late Albert B. and Anna Vesta Spurrier Osburn.
He was a retired parts and service representative for Cummins Diesel at Strasburg. He also worked in the coal business for 30 years where he was a drag line operator, foreman, and superintendent for Wallick Coal and Copperhead Coal Co. and was an owner of the former Salem Coal.
Charles was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church at Dover and one time member of the church council. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and was a tree farmer and member of the East Central Ohio Tree Assn. He was also a former Boy Scout leader in Winfield.
He is survived by his wife Margaret E. Mizer Osburn with whom he celebrated 62 years of marriage on March 2.
One daughter and two sons Joe (Peggy) Osburn of Parma, Judy (Dick) Gummere of New Philadelphia and Tom (Missy) Osburn of Scottsdale, Az.
Seven grandchildren John Osburn, Amy Linville, Jay and Trevor Gummere, Jeff, Jason, and Seth Osburn.
He was preceded in death by two half sisters Ersel Patterson and Gladys Drake and a half brother, Vincent McCall.
He never met a stranger in his life, just a friend he never talked to before.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 29, 1999 at 11:00 AM in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Revs. William Haggis and Donald Pentz officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. Friends can call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 PM.
