Charles G. “Chuck” Illig, age 76, of Dover, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024, in his home.
Born March 17, 1947, in Weirton, West Virginia, he was a son of the late George and Alice McClain Illig. Chuck graduated from Wintersville High School in 1965, and went on to serve honorably with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He married the former Lora Hendricks, who survives, on February 2, 1973; the couple celebrated their 50th anniversary this past year. Chuck retired from Dover City Schools in 2007, following 27 years of service. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dover.
Some of Chuck’s favorite pastimes were fishing the lakes of the Muskingum Conservancy as well as Salt Fork. He also enjoyed working with wood and stained glass, and he was a great TV watcher.
In addition to his wife, Lora, Chuck is survived by his daughter, Casey (George Elliott) Illig of New Albany; his grandson, Mason (Serina Smith) Illig; his sister, Rebecca (Tom) Childers; his brother, David (Judy) Illig; and his nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover, on Tuesday, January 16, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 1:30, officiated by Rev. Bonnie L. Grimaldi. Military honors will be presented by the New Philadelphia post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Chuck’s cremated remains will be placed later in the columbarium at Dover Burial Park.
