Charles Joseph Lombardo, 86, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2004 in Doctors Hospital at Massillon.
Born January 5, 1918, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Contini Lombardo.
Charles was a graduate of Dover High School. He was in the Navy for 21 years achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer after honorably serving in WW II and the Korean War. He started college at Ohio Northern University in 1960 and graduated in 1964 with a Bachelor�(TM)s degree in Pharmacy. He interned for one year at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City and returned to Dover to work in retail Pharmacy from 1965-1966. He then worked in hospital pharmacies for the remaining of his working career in and around Lima, Ohio while residing with his son and former wife, Mary Ann in Ada, Ohio until he retired in 1982.
While in Ada he served Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church as a trustee and was on the finance committee for a number of years. He then moved back to Dover in 1984 where he lived with his brother John Lombardo and sister the late Florence Schlemmer.
He is survived by one son, Andrew-of Rock Hill, South Carolina; one brother, John; one sister, Mary Huffman -both of Dover; two grandchildren, Daniel and Amanda Lombardo of Coldwater, MI; two nephews, John Patterson and Joe Huffman , and two nieces, Patricia Morris and Joy E. Rodgers; and a former daughter-in-law, Vicki Lombardo of Coldwater, MI.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, Sam and Marion: three sisters, Mary, Rosina and Florence Schlemmer and a nephew, Marion II.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, Nov. 3rd at 10:30am in the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover with Fr.William Arnold officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover where military honors will be conducted by the Dover VFW.
Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover on Tuesday, November 2nd from 6-8pm. A Christian Wake service will be held on Tuesday night at 7:45pm.
