Charles L. "Charlie" Jones

Charles L. “Charlie” Jones, age 41, of New Philadelphia, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, Wednesday, October 5, 2022, in Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital, Dover, where he was taken after becoming ill.


Born August 13, 1981, in Dover, he was a son of Linda Hershberger Jones of New Philadelphia, and the late Charles D. Jones. Charlie attended Dover High School, but quit, and later earned his high school equivalency credential. He was employed by Dee’s Restaurant, The Times-Reporter and Wabash Lanes, all of New Philadelphia, as well as having done farm work. Charlie enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his brother, Taylor. He was mechanically gifted and liked working on bicycles, and he loved animals.


In addition to his mother, Linda, he is survived by his brother and sister, Taylor Jones and Ashley (Brandon) Smitley, both of New Philadelphia; and his nephews, Laon and Miles Smitley.


Besides his father, Charlie was preceded in death by his sister, Kelly Ann Jones; his brother, Matthew Roy Jones; his maternal grandparents, Laon and Pauline Hershberger; and his paternal grandparents, Roy and Sara Jones.


Cremation is under the care and direction of the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. A graveside service will be held Friday, October 21, at 11 a.m.,  in New Philadelphia’s East Avenue Cemetery; Pastor Earl Ankrom, Charlie's cousin, will officiate.


Donations may be made to Charlie’s family to help with his final expenses.
