Charles R. Young, 89, of Uhrichsville died Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the Community Hospice House.
Born April 20, 1925 in Dennison he was a son of the late Robert and Harriett McKnight Young. Charles was also preceded in death by his son, Robert Young; brothers, Hershel Bair and Danny Young and sisters, Hazel VonDriska and LaVerne Contini.
He was the owner and operator of Surface Mining Inc. in Uhrichsville for over 34 years and had the distinction of being the youngest registered surveyor in the state of Ohio. Charles was also the Tuscarawas County Engineer for 16 years. He proudly served his country during WW II with the Army Air Corp and was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Tuscarawas. Charles had a passion for wrestling, especially following the Claymont wrestling program where he was a stat keeper for over 15 years.
He is survived by his children, Ronald Young of California, James (Cindy) Young and Jeff (Deborah) Young both of Uhrichsville, Scott (Shay) Young of New Philadelphia and Pandora Young of Idaho; daughter in law, Connie Young of Uhrichsville; 18 grandchildren, two step grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren.
Friends can call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at 246 East High Ave in New Philadelphia on Monday from 6-8 pm. Private family services will be held at a later date with interment in the East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
