Charles "Richard" Patterson

Charles "Richard" Patterson, 77, of Dover died Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Union Hospital.

Born February 21, 1932 in Dover he was a son of the late Charles H. and Alice Gillette Patterson.

Richard had worked at Sparta Ceramics in East Sparta, Franchester Farms in West Salem, Ohio and at Hubbard Farms and Hatchery in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

He was a former member of the New Philadelphia Eagles, a volunteer for the Burbank, Ohio Fire Department and had attended the Word of Life Church in Dover. Richard had a passion for flower gardening and yard work which led him to start his own lawn care service in Arkansas. He was a giving man who volunteered his time making dinners for his elderly neighbors and friends. He also enjoyed dressing up as Santa Claus and a clown for nursing home residents and his family.

Richard will be sadly missed by his daughters, Debbie (husband, Robert) Jackson of Massillon and Joy (husband, Vinson) Bair of Oklahoma; sons, Arthur Patterson of Arkansas and George (wife, Joann) Patterson of Oklahoma; brother, Paul (wife, Vicki) Patterson of Winesburg; grandchildren, Rebecca, Paula, Josh, Scott, Christopher and Evelyn; great grandchildren, Vincent, Courtney, Tyler, Devin, Desiree, McKenzie, Jacob and Cody, who was born on his birthday; adopted children, Michelle and Susan Patterson and Matthew Patterson, all of Arkansas; step grandchildren, Justin, Santana and Christopher; four nieces and his special friend Rachel Baker.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Dover with Pastor Bill Harrison officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Friends can call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6-8 pm.
