Charles Robert Glazier

Charles Robert “Charlie” or “Bob” Glazier, 86, of New Philadelphia, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, in Hennis Care Centre, Dover, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Born Jun. 12, 1920, in New Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Charles A. and Verna Stiffler Glazier. Charlie attended school in New Philadelphia and served honorably in the United States Army during the Second World War; he was awarded the Purple Heart, the Silver Star and two Bronze Stars, among others. Charlie served in the 10th Armored Division of General George Patton�(TM)s 3rd Army. He had the distinction of guarding
both General Patton and General Dwight Eisenhower.

Charlie retired from the General Electric Company at Dover after thirty-five years of service. In his younger days, he was a truck driver for A.J. Weigand, and also built homes with Wayne Ripple.

He was a member of the National Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. Charlie was Governor for the former Loyal Order of Moose of New Philadelphia, and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, also of New Philadelphia. Additionally, Charlie was a volunteer
for Hospice of Tuscarawas County. He loved his family and time spent with with them.

Survivors include two daughters, Roberta (fiancé, Bruce Yenni) Jackson and
Patti (husband, Ron) Brinkley, both of Strasburg; three grandchildren, Mike and Jesse Jackson, and Chris (wife, Karen) Brinkley; two great-grandsons, Josh and Matt Atkinson; a sister, Peg Benbow of Clearwater, Florida; a brother, Glenn H. (wife, Linda) Glazier of Fort Worth, Texas; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; and several nieces and
nephews.

In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his beloved
wife of fifty-two years, Anna Schwartz Glazier, in 1999; three sisters, Gertrude Bretzius, Ruth Ripple and Mildred Tschudy; and three brothers, Russell, Dean and Donald Glazier.

Charlie�(TM)s life will be celebrated in a service Wednesday, Dec. 20, at 2 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 803 N. Wooster Ave., Dover, with Chaplain Rick Brinsley of Hospice of Tuscarawas County officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Burial Park, New Philadelphia, where military rites will be conducted by the Dover post of the V.F.W. Following the committal, there will be a meal in the Toland-Herzig Monarch
