Charles Stephens Baker

Charles Stephens Baker, 80, of Beach City, died Monday, April 14, 2008 after an extended illness.

Born in Belaire, Ohio, on July 9, 1927, he was the son of Wilbur and Ida Mae (Stephens) Baker. He attended school in Mineral City and graduated from Strasburg- Franklin High School in 1947.

After serving in the U.S. Navy for two years, Charles lived in Jacksonville, Florida where he worked as a sales manager for the Chrysler Division at Brooks Motors, and as a sales representative for Chickashee Mobile Homes in Vidalia, Georgia.

Returning to Ohio in 1967, Chuck worked for a short time at the Von Kaennel Trucking Company in Columbia and then became a sales representative at Fulk-Bayer AMC in Canton. Later he owned and operated, Chuck Baker AMC before ending his sales career as a salesman at Midwest Brokerage in Minerva.

He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite and York Rite affiliated with the Tadmore Temple in Akron.

Chuck is survived by his first wife, Erma (McCaslin) Baker of Beach City, a son, Charles (Sally) Baker of Dover, Three daughters, Terri (Dick) Dodd of Strasburg, Rebecca (Kenneth) Welch of Dennison, and Rene' Baker (Mike Mase) of Herndon, Virginia.

He is also survived by one sister, Mary Louise (Ray) Bender of Strasburg, eight grandchildren; Amy (Jeremy) Felgenhauer of Dover, Jason (Tiffany) Baker of Dover, Robert (Wendy) Williams of Massillon, Johanna Williams of Strasburg, Dylan and Lauren Welch of Dennison, and Austin and Kaitlin Alexander of Tallahassee, Florida, four great-grandchildren; Aaron, Hayley, Kaine Williams, and Chloe Felgenhaur.

He is preceded in death by his second wife, Doris Baker, a brother, Robert Baker, a sister, Betty McKinnley, and a granddaughter, Mica.

A funeral service celebrating Chuck's life will be conducted Wednesday, April 16, at 7:00 p.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Strasburg, with Chaplain Paul Rudy of Aultman Hospice, officiating. Cremation will follow the service.

Friends may call in the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 & 5-7.
