Charles T. Hizer, 91, of Canton died Monday, March 17, 2014 in the Hospitality House at Massillon.
Born December 5, 1922 in Caldwell he was a son of the late Charles T. Sr. and Ann Barlock Hizer.
Charles started his career as an Auto Mechanic for Dover Motor Car Co. and later became a Vocational Teacher at East Liverpool for four years and finally retired from Perry High School in 1985. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in North Industry where he sang in the choir. Charles enjoyed traveling with his wife, Doris, camping, hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Buckeye Bacon Burners and the Weekenders Coachman Club. He was talented musician who played the trumpet for the Dominic Greco Band and the New Porte Richey Band in Florida. Charles proudly served his country with the Army Air Corps during WW II and was a life member of the Dover VFW and the American Legion Post #44 in Canton.
A wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather, Charles will be sadly missed by his wife of almost 70 years, Doris C. Doidge Hizer whom he married on August 6, 1944; sons, Tom (Joan) Hizer of New Philadelphia and Edward Hizer of Canton; daughter, Ruth Ann Hizer of Tega Cay, South Carolina; brother, Gilbert Hizer of Canton; grandsons, Eric, Nicholas, Nathan and Matthew and great grandchildren, Nyah, Liev, Isla, Imogen and Willoughby.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 20 at 2:00 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Pastor Scott Bacon officiating. Friends can call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
