Charlotte Ann Graves

July 24, 1917 — July 19, 2007

Charlotte A. Graves, 89, a resident of both Dover and New Philadelphia, died Thursday, Jul. 19, 2007, in Park Village Health Care Center, Dover, following a long illness.

Born, Jul. 24, 1917, in Dover, she was a daughter of the late Elmer and Edna Newton Rinehart. Charlotte graduated from Dover High School in 1935. Dover High School had the first marching band in the State of Ohio, and Charlotte was in it, playing first clarinet. She always had a fondness for music, and later played with the Greco Band, and directed the choir at the former United Brethren Church in Dover. Charlotte married J. Russell Graves on Aug. 14, 1937, in Dover. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who liked to sew, and made many costumes for church activities and dance recitals. Charlotte was well-known by family and friends for her wonderful angel food cake that was made from scratch. Christmas was a favorite holiday, and Charlotte and Russ worked hard to make each one very special. Charlotte(TM)s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were especially dear to her and she thoroughly enjoyed all of their activities.

In addition to her familial duties, Charlotte kept the books for the family business, Plumbing Contractors and Supply Co. She was an avid sports fan, who loved the Cleveland Cavaliers, Indians, and Ohio State. Charlotte was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church at Dover.

Survivors include her two daughters, Karen (husband, Tom) Armstrong of Dover, and Jill (husband, Jim) Wallace of Estero, FL; six grandchildren, Polly (husband, Barry) Trotter, Ryan (wife, Edie) Armstrong, Jennifer Armstrong, Ben (wife, Emily) Wallace, Sam Wallace, and Amanda (Mike) Schneck; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gracella Keppler and Judy (husband, Bill) Boose, both of New Philadelphia; several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Russ, on Jul. 29, 2000; a sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Melvin Littleton; and a brother-in-law, John Keppler.

A funeral service will be held Monday, Jul. 23, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Pastor Marlin R. Drake officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal, there will be a meal in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
