Cherry J. Bartsch

September 30, 1928 — August 16, 2012

Cherry J. Bartsch, 83, of New Philadelphia, Ohio died peacefully while lovingly surrounded by her 4 children on Thursday, August 16, 2012 in the Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia.

Born Sept. 30, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late James Gilliam and Lucille (Jirberg) Maple, and stepfather Charles Maple. She graduated from West Tech High School in 1946 as Class Treasurer in a class of over 500.
Cherry retired in 1991 from Perma Glass Mesh in Dover where she worked as a secretary for over twenty five years. She had also worked for Sherwin Williams in Cleveland, OH and for the US Army Corp of Engineers at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, WA.

She thought of her children as her greatest accomplishment. She was both a giving and completely selfless mother. She is especially remembered not only as a devoted and loving mother, but also grandma and great grandma. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She was an "expert" with crossword puzzles and also enjoyed reading and crocheting blankets and pot holders for her family and friends.

She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Strasburg.

She will be sadly missed by her four children Donna (Sam) Willis of Dover, Jeff (Pat) Bartsch of Pickerington, Deb (Joe) Parolini of Dover and Cindy Bartsch of Columbus; twelve grandchildren, Abby (Luke) Martin, Tana (Jason) Grewell, Matthew (Kelly) Bartsch, Lauren, Christopher, and Alex Bartsch, Tony, Andy, and Jeremy Parolini, Eric (Amanda) Rusk, Jason and Keith Rusk; four great grandchildren, Dylan and Mason Grewell and Isabelle and Jack Martin and another expected great grandchild this December for whom she was making a list of possible name choices for. In addition, she is survived by a niece Laraine Larkin Cutshaw and a nephew Tim Larkin.

Cherry was preceded in death by a twin sister, Nancy Larkin.

A funeral service celebrating Cherry's life will be held on Monday, Aug. 20, 2012 at 11am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Chad Durfee, Chaplain of Community Hospice officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg with a reception to follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3-6pm. Those unable to attend or who may wish to express a fond memory of Cherry may sign the online guestbook by visiting the "Obituaries and flowers" link on the funeral home website at www.tolandherzig.com
