Cheryl Kaye Marshall, age 76, of Dover, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 14, 2018, after an apparent stroke on Thursday.
Born June 5, 1941, in Dover, she was a daughter of the late Werner and Ilma Franz Geiser. Cheryl graduated from Dover High School in 1959, where she was in the band, and went on to take her nurses’ training at Massillon City Hospital becoming a registered nurse. She married Thomas G. Marshall, who survives, on July 26, 1963.
Cheryl was a member of First Mennonite Church in Sugarcreek, where she was in the choir and on church council, until 1990, at which time she became a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Dover. She played the flute and piccolo with the Tuscarawas Philharmonic Orchestra under Conductor Gilbert Roehm, and was known for her love of animals.
Cheryl will be sadly missed by her family, which includes her husband, Tom; her daughter, Lee Ann (Dale) Miller of Strasburg; her grandchildren, Ellie and Mark Miller; her four great-grandchildren; several cousins, with whom she was very close; and her dog and cat, Lilly Sue and Callie.
In addition to her parents, Cheryl was preceded in death by her son, Jon K. Marshall; and her sister, Phyllis Baker.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 19, at 11 a.m., in St. John’s United Church of Christ, with Pastor Tom Dunkle officiating. Burial will be in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens, Dover. Following the committal, there will be a lunch in the church’s social hall. Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Wednesday, April 18, 5 - 8 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at the church. To sign an online guestbook and share a fond memory of Cheryl, please visit the obituaries link in the funeral home’s website.
The family suggests that, instead of flowers, contributions in Cheryl’s memory be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (honoring her son, Jon), the general fund of St. John’s U.C.C., the A.S.P.C.A., or the Tuscarawas Co. Humane Society.
