Claude P. Domer

Claude P. Domer, 97, of Dover, who most recently resided in Strasburg, died Sunday evening, March 11, 2007 in the Hennis Care Centre, following a short battle with illness.

Born June 23, 1909 at Smithville, he was the son of the late Samuel & Jemima Yoder Domer. Also preceding Claude in death was: his wife, the former Rena C. Grimes, who died August 7, 1998; a son, Richard “Dick” Domer, and his wife, Marilyn; two grandsons, Michael & Eddie Domer; two brothers, Lester and Chester; and two sisters, Sevilla and Emma.

He had attended the Church of the Brethren at New Philadelphia.

Claude enjoyed telling stories about “the good old days” when he was a child. It was then that he first became enamored with steam-powered engines. Over the years, he had traveled across the state to visit different county�(TM)s steam shows. As one might think, Claude was mechanically inclined. In the spirit of those old engines, he appreciated a variety of different antique tools and enjoyed taking them apart so that he could figure out the inner workings, then give them a tune-up and put them back together, good as new. He also had an interest in farming.

Survivors include: three children, Anna Justice of Strasburg, Gene Domer of Colorado, and Jim Domer of Plainfield; 10 loving grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service that celebrates Claude�(TM)s life will be held Thursday, March 15, at 12:00 p.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Strasburg with the Rev. Steven Court officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Peace Cemetery at Hartville. Friends may call in the funeral home on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at noon.
