Cletus "Dick" Reed, 91, of Dover passed away at Park Village Assisted Living on Sunday, January 6, 2013.
Born on March 19, 1921 in Strasburg, he was the son of the late John and Christena Geckler Reed. He graduated from Strasburg High School in 1939. On September 5, 1942, Cletus joined the Army where he honorably served our country during WWII. He served in the Caribbean, China, Burma, and India Theaters of Operation. He concluded his service on December 30, 1946. On March 18, 1948, he married the love of his life, Arlene Breniser Reed, who survives.
Dick was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Strasburg as well as a life member of the Strasburg American Legion and the Dover VFW.
In addition to his wife, Arlene, he is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his brother; Paul Reed; sister, Fern A. Duerr; and his nephew, Kenneth Duerr.
A celebration of Dick's life will take place at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Gary Friend officiating. Burial will follow at Ft. Lauren's Cemetery in Bolivar where the Strasburg American Legion will conduct a military graveside service. Following the service of committal, a meal will be served at St. John United Church of Christ in Strasburg. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday from 1:00 -2:00 pm.
