Clifford W. Wright, Sr., 88, of Dover, died Tuesday, August 22, 2006, in Hennis Care Centre.
Born June 17, 1918, in Dundee, he was a son of the late Melvin and Ella Baughman Wright. Clifford attended school in Dundee, and served honorably in the United States Army during the Second World War. He retired from the Norfolk & Western Railroad following thirty-three years of service.
Clifford was a member of the Salvation Army of Dover, and the Carl C. Stoller Post 1445 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, New Philadelphia.
Survivors include his wife, Delores Medley Wright, whom he married January 26, 1946; a son, Clifford (wife, Phyllis) Wright, Jr. of Dover; a daughter, Bonnie (husband, Joseph) Swonger, also of Dover; five grandchildren, Bonnie Jo Nussbaumer, Joseph Swonger, Jr., Matthew Swonger, Sara Zurfley and Amanda Swonger; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson; a granddaughter; two brothers, Vernon Wright and Virgil Wright (who was killed in the Second World War); and by a sister, Ruth Berry.
A service celebrating Clifford�(TM)s life will be held Saturday, August 26, at 1:30 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Capt. Charles Bates and Corps Sgt. Maj. Charles Burrier officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park where military rites will be held. Following the committal, there will be a meal in the Salvation Army Citadel, 301 N.
