Dale Arnold Andrews, age 81, of Dover went on to his eternal reward with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Union Hospital after a period of declining health.
Born on May 2, 1929 in Sugarcreek he was the son of the late Charles and Ada Levengood Andrews.
Dale graduated from Sugarcreek-Shanesville High School. He retired from A.J. Weigand in 1991, where he worked as a long distance truck driver.
He was a life-long member of Union Hill United Methodist Church at Sugarcreek, where he taught Sunday school class for many years. He was also the church superintendent and bell ringer. The congregation will miss his hearty "AMEN." He was a people person who lived out of his faith in Christ by sharing genuine care and concern for others. He was very devoted to his family for whom he prayed continually, even during his time of failing health.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and great grandfather who was delighted in sharing in the lives of his family. He was well known for his concern for everyone he knew, family or friends, and enjoyed reminiscing and telling stories to all.
Dale is survived by his wife of 20 years, Donna Hennis-Wallick-Welsch-Andrews, whom he married on December 7, 1990. He also leaves behind four children; Bonnie (Fred) Steinebrey of Dover, Dean Andrews of Baltic, Allen (Marilyn) Andrews of Charlotte, NC, Gail (Christopher) Vaughn of New Philadelphia; seven step-children, Vickie (Otto) Polilli Jr. of Dover, Diane (Tyrone) Beem of Tuscarawas, Wendy Miller of Dover, Gene (Anne) Wallick Jr. of Strasburg, Rita (Rick) Watson of New Philadelphia, Steve (Brenda) Wallick of New Philadelphia, Adora Engstrom of Dover.
He will also be sadly missed by eight grandchildren, Jody (Steve) Ferrell, Erin (Eric) Clark, Nathan, Kirk, and Seth Andrews, Tyler, Shannon & Evan Zimmerman; 13 step grandchildren, Shelly (Mark) Myers, Otto (Carla) Polilli III, Traci Padro (fianc, Dave Carlisle), Anne (Mike) Chek, Trisha and Benjamin Cox, Chrissy Wallick, Rickie (Ashley) Watson, Joshua Wallick, Nikki Wallick, Tonya (Jamie) Garmon, Jessica (Chad) Landis, and Alex Linkous; three great grandchildren, Connor and Audrey Clark, Ethan Ferrell; 14 Step-great grandchildren, Brandon and Trevor Myers, Abigail, Otto IV Polilli, Aaron and Zane Chek, Brennan Mathias, Blake and Kayla Polka, Rylie and Payne Landis and Andrew, Alexis and Kaden.
In addition to his parents, Dale is preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Margaret Carbary; brother, Doyle Andrews; sister, Norma Hawkins; infant grandson, Christopher Steinebrey; daughter in-law, Diane Troyer Andrews; sister in-law, Ester McDade; and brother in-law, John Hennis.
A celebration of Dale's life will take place at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 11:00 am with Pastor Carl Kandel officiating. Burial will follow at Union Hill Cemetery in Sugarcreek. Following the service of committal a meal will be served at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7 pm.
