Dale L. Maurer, age 83, of Chelsea, Michigan, and formerly of Dover, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2018, at his home in Chelsea.
Born April 15, 1935, in Dover, he was the son of the late A. Frank and Hazel Henderson Maurer. Dale served honorably with the United States Army in Germany as a Specialist 4 in Headquarters Company 6 Transportation Battalion. He married the former Eleanor Brock, who survives, on July 8, 1967 in Trinity United Church of Christ, Wooster. Dale was employed by the Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. for thirty years and the Dexter, Michigan Community School District for fifteen years. Additionally, he volunteered at the Chelsea Community Hospital, logging over six thousand hours.
Dale was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ and Lodge 57 F.& A.M., both of Dover, and the A.A.S.R. - Valley of Canton.
In addition to his wife, Eleanor, Dale is survived by his son, Timothy (Jessica) Maurer of Columbus; his daughter, Elizabeth Maurer of Alexandria, Virginia; his five grandchildren; his sisters, Mabel Maurer of Dover and Marlyn (Chuck) Schroder of Candor, New York; and his many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends at the Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea, on Thursday, May 24, 7 - 9 p.m. A Masonic service will be held Saturday, May 26, at 1:30 p.m. in the Toland- Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover.
