Dale M. Shriver, 81, of Tuscarawas, Ohio went into the more immediate presence of his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Union Hospital with his family at his side.
Born near Buffalo, Ohio on January 7, 1933 he was one of two children born to the late Noah J. and Lois Miley Shriver.
He graduated from Valley Local High School at Buffalo in 1950, and began his college education at Muskingum College. During this time, he met the love of his life Barbara J. Marquis, whom he married on January 24, 1954. They lived in Columbus for a time where he worked for the Jennings-Lawrence Engineering Co. Later they moved to Tucson, Arizona where he completed his BS degree in Education at the University of Arizona in 1957. Dale began his teaching career in the Alhambra School District in Phoenix for six years, during which time he completed his MS degree in Education at Arizona State University in 1960. They returned to Ohio in 1963 when he became an Elementary Principal at the Sardis Elementary School in Sardis, Ohio. From there, he continued his 20 year administrative career as Superintendent at Northridge Schools for five years, Indian Valley Schools for 10 years, and finally at Black River Schools for five years where he retired in 1987. He believed that the future is in the children and that during his career he always felt so blessed to have helped shape the lives of many students. Dale was a member of the Tuscarawas Rotary and Sharon Moravian Church where he served as a member of the Board of Trustees, Deiners and Christian Educational Committee.
Dale is survived by his loving wife Barbara and three children, Dean (wife, Dr. Rhonda Beal) Shriver of Kodiak, Alaska, Gary (wife, Brenda) Shriver of Alvin, Texas and Pamela (husband, Tony) Saens of Tuscarawas. The nine grandchildren are, Ashley Shriver and husband, Damon of Sherrodsville, Thomas Shriver of Germany, Kyle and Bryn Ladner of Columbus, Andrew and Kim Huntsman of Pearland, Texas, Peggy Shriver and fianc Keith Lane of Alvin, Texas and Myriah Shriver and her partner, Dudley Franklin also of Alvin, Tiffany Berglund of Las Vegas, Anessa Saens of Lakewood. The great grandchildren are Aiden, Samantha and McKenzie of Sherrodsville, Trinity and Mathias of Pearland, Texas, JoLee of Alvin and Kamdyn Berglund of Las Vegas. He is also survived by a brother, Dean (wife, Martha) Shriver of Pleasant City; two nieces, Kate Johnson and Debbie Kackley and a nephew, Wayne Shriver.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 27 at 11:00 am in the Sharon Moravian Church with Rev. Rebecca Sisley and Rev. Darrell Johnson officiating. Interment will be in the Sharon Moravian Church Cemetery. Following the burial, a luncheon will be served in the church fellowship hall. Friends can call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover on Friday from 5-8 pm.
