Dallas G. Yackey, 74, of Strasburg, Ohio died Saturday, December 23, 2000 in his home following a courageous battle with cancer.
He retired in 1965 as a self employed dairy farmer.
Born December 8, 1926 in Strasburg, he was the son of the late Clarence T. and Margie V. (Deibel) Yackey, Sr.
Dallas was a member of the First Lutheran Church at Strasburg where he previously served on church council and was a former Sunday Schoolteacher. He was a former Franklin Twp. Trustee for many years and served in the U.S. Marine Corp. during World War II.He was a former member of the Charles Hofer Post of the American Legion at Strasburg. He enjoyed woodworking and crafts and sharing them with others.Many people sought his talents at refinishing furniture.
He was preceded in death by his wife Carol Waltz Yackey who died June 11, 1997.
He is survived by two daughters Susan (Paul) Samsa and Carolyn (Dick) Hess both of Strasburg and two sons, Mike (Patty) Yackey of Strasburg and Mark (Dana) Yackey of Dover.
One Brother Clarence Yackey Jr. of the Dayton area and a sister, Dorothy (Sam) Seward of Strasburg.
Eleven grandchildren Nathan Samsa; Julie and Richie Hess; Holli (Jeremy) Young; Carrie (Tom) Diehl; Corey Yackey, Crissy (Paul) Reiger; Alex, Brett, Drew and Shaun Yackey,One step granddaughter,Cathy Hess Hudnall; One great granddaughter, Madison Diehl, and two step great granddaughters, Lea and Sarah Hudnall and two step great grandson, Brandon Diehl and Ricky Young.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Jennifer Hess; one great granddaughter, Hope Marie Young; one sister, Margaret Lautenschleger; and one brother, Carl Yackey.
Private graveside services for the immediate family will be held Wednesday in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg with Pastor Fred Grosse officiating. There are no calling hours.
