Daniel C. "Dan" Jeansonne, age 86, of Dover, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2016, in the care of Community Hospice in Oak Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Baltic.
Born June 30, 1930, at New Orleans, Louisiana, he was the son of the late Landry and Adine Ardoin Jeansonne. Dan graduated from New Orleans' St. Aloysius High School and entered the service of his country with the United States Navy during the Korean War. Much of his service time was aboard the U.S.S. Leyte, an aircraft carrier. Following his discharge, Dan attended Loyola College at New Orleans earning his bachelor's degree. He married and went to work for an eastern laminate company, which was later purchased by General Electric. Dan was transferred by G.E. to its plant at Coshocton, from which he later retired. He was a devoted family man who adored his grandchildren (and his "grand-dogs).
Dan was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church at New Philadelphia; a life member of the Elks Lodge; and a member of the Brother Martin Society of New Orleans. He loved the game of golf and was a member of the Elks Golf League. Additionally, Dan enjoyed music and dancing; he was a fan of Dover High School and Ohio State sports; and especially enjoyed many memorable trips back home to New Orleans visiting old friends, including Leon and Betty Chauvin .
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Lawless Wallick Jeansonne, whom he married on June 18, 1978; his children, Cary (Carolyn) Jeansonne of Uniontown, and Laurie (Charles) Brown of Dover; his grandchildren, Michael Mitchell of Columbus, Scott Brown of St. Kitts, West Indies, and Brittany Thur of Uniontown.
Besides his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Linda Wallick Mitchell and Mark Mitchell.
His life will be celebrated Saturday, August 6, at 3 p.m., in Trinity Episcopal Church, New Philadelphia, with Rev. Dr. Carey E. Sloan III officiating. Military rites will also be conducted at the church. Afterward, there will be a reception in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard at Dover. Family and friends are invited to call at the church on Saturday, 2 3 p.m., and later at the Monarch Center. To sign an online guestbook and share a fond memory of Dan, please visit the obituaries link on the Toland-Herzig website.
