Daniel David Mathey, 48, of New Orleans, passed away on July 28, 2011 at Intrim LSU Public Hospital from complications of chronic alcoholism.

Born on July 12, 1963 in Massillon, Ohio, he was the son of David and Linda (Crites) Mathey of Magnolia.

Daniel graduated from Perry High School in 1983. He worked for many years on oil rigs in the Pacific and Gulf Coast and also worked for a sign manufacturing company. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, canoeing and skydiving. He was also an avid reader, an outstanding chess player and loved working all types of challenging mind games like Sudoku puzzles.

In addition to his parents, David and Linda, Daniel will be sadly missed by his brother; Donald (Barbara) Mathey of Massillon; sister, Laurie (Keith) Wetter of Carrollton; and his special great-aunt, Patricia Amstutz of Massillon. He also leaves behind four nieces, whom he cherished, Sara and Hannah Wetter of Carrolton, and Tiffany and Christina Blankenship of Massillon.

Daniel is preceded in death by his grandparents; Alphonse and Mary Mathey, and Edward and Dorothy Crites.

In honoring Daniel�(TM)s wishes, there will be no services or calling hours. Cremation has taken place in New Orleans.
