Daniel E. Urfer, 93, of Dover died Thursday, February 26, 2015 in the Park Village Health Care Center.
Born July 23, 1921 in Dover he was a son of the late Edward and Clara Garver Urfer. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Carmella Urfer on October 26, 2007; granddaughter, Cynthia Black; son in law, Al Saffell; four sisters and two brothers.
He retired from Warner & Swasey after more than 30 years of service and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Daniel had also worked at the Timken Co. in Canton for several years. Since he was the only one to own a car, he had several people that would ride back and forth to work, which is where he met his future wife. Carmella had submitted an ad in the newspaper that she needed a ride to work; from there they were married on July 15, 1945 and celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Daniel will be sadly missed by his children, JoAnn Saffell of Dover, Pat and John Adams of Ft. Worth, TX, and Dianne and Larry Coulter of Dover; eight grandchildren, Mike, Dave and Ron Saffell, Sherri Kramer, John Adams Jr., Gretchen Grosse, Rachelle Sensel and Hillarie Sholtz; 21 great-grandchildren, Nicole, Tony, Brittany, Andrew and Kendra Saffell, Krista Kempf, Gina Becker, Jonathon, Jeremy and Jason Black, Adam and Blake Steinford, Amanda Brown, Jessica and J.Q. Adams III, Carter and Meara Shapaka, Sarah Grosse, Kera and Kori Sensel , Bre and Conner Sholtz; six great-great grandchildren and a great nephew, Douglas Urfer and other nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 7 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Dr. William C. Haggis and Pastor Fred Gosse officiating. Friends can call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
