David I. Beem, age 83, of Dover, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022, in Community Hospice Truman House, New Philadelphia, following a brief illness.
Born July 3, 1939, in Mount Gilead, he was a son of the late Edward and Garnet Lee Beem. David graduated from Akron Kenmore High School where he excelled in football, basketball and baseball. He attended the University of Akron, and married the former Bonita “Bonnie” Driscoll on December 8, 1961. The couple had three children and shared 58 years of marriage prior to Bonnie’s passing on April 18, 2020. Early in his career, David was employed as the general manager of the former DiFeo Ford in North Canton. He then worked for the Scio Bank Company, of which he became president, and later was employed by Ameritrust, and then Key Bank, from which he retired as vice president of corporate lending.
He was a member of Dover’s Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. David was also a dedicated Cleveland Browns fan, as well as a fan of Ohio State.
He will be dearly missed by his children, Todd Beem of New Philadelphia, Craig (Maria Armes) Beem of Leesville, and Shelly (Chris) Stubblefield of Uhrichsville; his grandchildren, Mason, Seth and Katelin Beem; his brother, Donald Beem; his nieces and nephews, Mike, Rachel, Megan, Danny and Ty; his good friend, Jeanette Masters; and his beloved dog, Buddy.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 20, at 4:30 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover; Rev. Bonnie L. Grimaldi will officiate.
