David L. Yackey, 68, of Dover passed away at Mercy Select Specialty in Canton on Sunday, September 9, 2012 following an extended illness.
Born on October 12, 1943 in Dover, he was the son of the late Ralph H. and Viola M. Myers Yackey. David was a 1961 graduate of Dover High School, where he played football and sang in the school choir. He worked for the Shenango Co. in Dover for over 25 years and was also employed at Commercial Honing for many years.
David was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Cleveland Browns, Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Dover Tornadoes. He loved spending time outdoors; fishing, golfing, hunting, and trapshooting. Every year, he looked forward to taking a trip to Canada.
He was a member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church where he sang in the church choir.
On February 9, 1980, he married his wife, Tarry Glaser, who survives. Other surviving family members include two sons; Paul (Ember) Yackey of London, Ohio, Kenny (Kellie) Yackey of Baltic; four grandchildren, Keara and Karson Yackey of Baltic, and Hannah and Greyson Yackey of London; along with three sisters, Eileen Ray of Mt. Sterling, Ohio, Doris Yackey of Dover, and Bonnie Yackey of Dover.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by; a sister, Betty Goedel; two brothers, James and Kenneth Yackey; and his special friend Mac McWilliams.
A celebration of David's life will take place at the Strasburg United Methodist Church on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 11:00 am with Rev Lynda Masters officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. Following the service of committal, a meal will be served in the church social hall. Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm.
