David M. Gibbs, 76, of New Philadelphia passed away at the Community Hospice Truman House on Thursday, July 29, 2021 following a sudden illness.
David was born in Dover on January 1, 1945. He was the son of the late Donald H. and Elizabeth M. (Mason) Gibbs. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Richard Gibbs, and sister, Margaret Ann (Bruce) McCrillis; and his cousin, Majorie Clarke.
He graduated from Dover High School with the class of 1963. He joined the United States Army and honorably served our country during the Vietnam War.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, and great-grandfather. He married Lynda Colby on July 3, 1970. In addition to Lynda, he leaves behind his two children; Jeff (Julie) Gibbs of New Philadelphia, and Lisa (Troy) Hamilton of Dublin, Ohio; seven grandchildren; Trisha, Chandler, Joey, Mason, Gaby (Dakota), Keaton, and Jack along with his great-grandson, Jaxon and he was anxiously awaiting the arrival another great-grandson, Gideon.
David was a lifelong lover of cars and worked for several different dealerships in the area over the years. He had a strong faith in Jesus Christ. He grew up as a member of the Dover First United Methodist Church and also was a member of the First Baptist Church in New Philadelphia.
Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes & Crematory in Dover on Sunday, August 1, 2021, from 5-7 pm. A celebration of David’s life will be held at the funeral home on Monday, August 2, 2021, at 9:30 am with Pastor Jeff Bartell officiating. Interment will take place at Dover Burial Park where the New Philadelphia VFW will conduct military honors. Following the service of committal, a meal will be served at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center in Dover.
