David R. "Dave" Schooff, 83, of Dover passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020, at the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia.
Born July 29, 1937, in Janesville, Wisconsin, he was the son of the late Richard and Vivian (Mabie) Schooff. He spent most of his childhood and teenage years in Janesville, Wisconsin and graduated from Janesville High School in 1955. His father worked for General Motors during World War II and was transferred to different job locations during that time including Kansas City, MO, and Memphis, TN.
Dave was a lifelong and devoted University of Wisconsin Badger fan. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1960 with a BS in Sociology where he was a proud member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He met his wife, Jane, while at UW, and were married shortly after they both graduated. The couple began their married life in Janesville WI, then Birmingham, MI, South Euclid, OH, and eventually settled in Dover, OH in 1970.
Dave began to work for General Motors after college and served in the Army as a Second Lieutenant. As his career developed, he continued in the steel industry working for Wisconsin Centrifugal, and Shenango in Dover, Ohio in Sales. He also worked as a manufacturer of heavy equipment. Dave was a talented storyteller which helped him be successful in his career as a salesman.
Dave was dedicated to serving the community of Dover-New Philadelphia in multiple ways throughout the years. He was an active member of the Kiwanis, and an elder in the First Moravian Church of Dover where he also taught Sunday School. He also served on the Board of Trumpet in the Land for many years.
He is survived by his wife Jane Zollar Schooff and celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on November 26. Together they have 3 adult children: daughter, Leslie Maitri Canniff of Charlotte, NC and her husband David Canniff,- daughter, Margaret (Meg) Slowey of Perry, OH and her husband Rob Slowey - and son, David (Mike) Schooff of Hillsborough, NC and his wife Angie Schooff. His cousin, Priscilla Gramke Kinkaid, and her adult children live in Janesville, WI. He has 6 grandchildren: Natalie and Nate Woodcock, Robbie, Catherine and Mary Slowey, and David Michael Schooff. Dave also has two Sisters-in-Law, Suzanne Rinderknecht, and Charlene Zollar both of Dover, OH.
Dave will long be cherished as a loving, and devoted father and husband who cared much for his family. He enjoyed spending time with them, having fun, and bringing laughter to family gatherings. He imparted his desire to have fun and teach them the rules of the game and life.
Private funeral services will be held at Dover First Moravian Church. Family and friends are invited to call at the First Moravian Church in Dover on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 from 10:00-11:00am. Interment will take place at Dover Burial Park. The Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover are handling the arrangements.
