David R. “Dave” Major, 79, of Dover passed away at Akron General Medical Center on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, with his beloved daughter by his side.
David was born in Dover on December 12, 1941. He was the son of the late David W. and Laura (Stechow) Major Morrow. On June 25, 1965, he married Christina L. Brick, who preceded him in death on November 5, 2019. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, George Morrow.
He was a graduate of New Philadelphia High School with the class of 1960. He joined the United States Army in 1960 and served with the Security Agency until 1963 during the Vietnam War. He worked at Timken and later became a police officer for the City of Dover and later was promoted to Police Chief. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Following his retirement in 1992, he fulfilled his dream of working for Disney World, where he worked for 13 years and drove the monorail for several of the years. He subsequently retired in 2005 and returned to Dover.
He leaves behind his daughter, Kristy Tidrick of New Philadelphia; and his brother, Robert W. Major of New Philadelphia.
In honoring Dave’s wishes, there will be no public calling hours and cremation has been entrusted with the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover. A graveside service will take place at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia on Friday, June 25, 2021 at 11:00 am with Matt Ford officiating. Refreshments will be served at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center, 831 Boulevard, Dover, Ohio 44622, following the service.
