David Lee “Dave" Ridenour, 76, of Dover, passed away on May 23, 2023. He was born on November 5, 1946, in Lima, the son of the late George and Alberta Ridenour. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of nearly 50 years, Janet “Borgert” Ridenour; his three children, Ann, Heidi, and Kate Ridenour. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Luke Ridenour and Ethan Sickles.
Dave graduated from Glenwood High School in Canton. He went on to excel academically at Parsons School of Design in New York City, where he graduated from an Interior Design program and then on to Ohio University where he obtained his degree in Architecture. Dave had a remarkable sense of design and was able to showcase those abilities throughout his career as an architect. He enjoyed being part of the Dover community, where he was a prior city councilman and member of the Architectural Review Board.
Dave was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was proud of his family and would show them endless amounts of love and support. His loved ones will remember him most for his sharp and unique mind, infinite wisdom, quirky wit, and unusual sense of humor. He had a vast knowledge of history, antiques, and art. One of his favorite outings was taking his family to the Cleveland Museum of Art, which was something he and his family enjoyed for several decades.
In prior years, he was incredibly athletic - once a high school wrestler. Throughout his adult life, he would participate in 5k runs and long distance bike rides, sponsored by The Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure. In the later years of his life, Dave put up a courageous battle against Parkinson's disease, which took so much away from his physical body.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Dover Public Library and / or The Michael J. Fox Foundation. A Celebration of his life is being planned for the summer.
