David Sexton, 78, of Dover died Sunday, April 17, 2011 in the Hennis Care Centre at Dover surrounded by his loving family.
David had retired as a Kiln Operator for Zedmark in Dover and following his retirement, worked part-time as a security guard for the Tuscarawas County Public Library.
Born October 24, 1932 in Olive Hill, Kentucky he was a son of the late John and Daisy Henderson Sexton. He was also preceded in death by three sisters and two half-sisters, Mary Luderer, Lena Froman, Katherine Sexton, Emily Logan and Grace Logan; two brothers and three half-brothers, Willie, Jay, George, Jim and Kelse Sexton.
David attended the First Church of God in New Philadelphia and enjoyed fishing, hunting and yard work. He proudly served his country during the Korean War with the United States Army. But most people would remember him playing Santa Claus at many different stores throughout the area during the Christmas season.
David is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Martin Sexton whom he married on May 23, 1955 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana; daughters, Kathy (Denny) Schweitzer of Dover, Barb (Mark) Sickinger and Cindy (Rich) Duvall both of New Philadelphia; sons, Dave Sexton of Greensburg, Pennsylvania and Jim (Susie) Sexton of Dennison, grandchildren, Joe (Kate) Schweitzer, Mindy (Ulises) Espinoza, Andrea and Steven (Emily) Sexton, Kristy Sickinger and her fianc Bill Buehler and Nicole Sickinger and her companion Alex Monea and Ashley Dawson; sisters and brother in law, Charles (Betty) Rakes and Dorothy Sexton both of Strasburg; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 2:00 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Pastor Matt Roe officiating. Interment will be at the Dover Burial Park where military graveside services will be conducted. Following the burial a funeral luncheon will be held at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center.
