Dean Allman, age 74, of Dover, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, February 18, 2021, in his home.
Born September 30, 1946, in Steubenville, he was the son of the late Oscar and Margaret Weldon Allman. Dean moved with his family at a young age to Dover where he graduated high school in 1965. He went on to serve honorably with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Following his service time, Dean was employed as a machinist with The Timken Company in Canton retiring after 25 years there.
He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Dover, where he served as deacon and usher. Dean also delivered meals for Union Hospital’s Mobile Meals, which he very much enjoyed doing. He also liked attending events at the Kent State Tuscarawas Performing Arts Center, and meeting with friends at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center.
Dean is survived by his twin sister, Jean (Frank) Zurfley of Dover; his nephews, Shawn (Sara) and Frank Jr. “Bud” (Becca) Zurfley; and his many great-nieces and great-nephews.
A funeral service will be held Monday, February 22, at 2 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Pastor Dotty Hartzell officiating. Burial will follow in Dover’s Maple Grove Cemetery where military rites will be conducted. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday, 1 - 2 p.m. For everyone’s safety, face masks must be worn and social distancing observed throughout the proceedings.
