Delbert J. Holcomb, 76, of Dover died Monday, April 11, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He retired from the former Simon-Duplex in Dover and had also worked at Marsh Lumber and Haas Body Shop.
Born November 30, 1934 in New Straitsville, Ohio he was a son of the late Bert and Freda Wilson Holcomb. He was also preceded in death by five sisters and four brothers.
Delbert proudly served his country with the United States Army and was a member of the Dover Moose and Eagles Club and the New Philadelphia VFW. He was an avid reader, and following his retirement would read two or more books a day. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, trivia, crossword puzzles and dominoes with anyone who was up for the challenge. Prior to his illness, Delbert loved many outdoor activities especially hunting for mushrooms.
A wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather, Delbert will be sadly missed by his wife of 53 years, Eleanor Van Meter Holcomb whom he married on July 6, 1957; daughters, Vera (Randy) Moser and Cora (Randy) Moretta both of Dover; son Bradley Holcomb of Gladstone, Michigan; sisters, Shirley Ball and Donna Miller both of Somerdale; grandchildren, Michael and Zachary Moser and Matthew Moretta.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Pastor Dick Harvey officiating. Interment will be at the Dover Burial Park where military graveside services will be held. Friends can call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-8 pm.
